About Dr. Rohit Sane
Dr. Rohit Sane is a shoulder surgeon focused on arthroscopy, arthroplasty, and trauma care. Over the years, his focus has narrowed to one body part, i.e., the shoulder. However, his background is anything but one-dimensional. He has trained in pharmacology and orthopaedics. He has studied in India and overseas. Now, he is applying all of it in operating rooms, clinics, and research labs, with a steady hand and a clear mind.
Dr. Sane has completed his shoulder fellowship at the Australian Shoulder Research Institute in Brisbane. He handles complex cases daily, including rotator cuff tears, shoulder instability, and reconstructive arthroplasty, while also contributing to ongoing academic studies.
His medical path began in Mumbai. He completed his MBBS at K.J. Somaiya Medical College. He then pursued an MD in Pharmacology from MGM Medical College. That might have been enough for many, but he continued and finished an MS in Orthopaedics at D.Y. Patil Medical College, also in Navi Mumbai.
Being a perfectionist, Dr. Sane attained a Diploma in Football Medicine from FIFA and life support training from the American Heart Association. An impressive list of certifications and workshop hours is a testimony to his dedication and sincerity to medical science.
Dr. Sane trained in two very different but complementary fellowships. First, in Coimbatore, India, at Ortho-One (ISAKOS recognised) under the guidance of “pioneer of arthroscopy in India”, Dr. David Rajan. There, he worked on sports injuries and arthroscopic techniques of the knee and shoulder. Additionally, he spent a lot of his time operating, teaching, and doing research work on latest techniques and procedures of the knee and shoulder.
After training in shoulder and knee arthroscopy procedures in India, Dr. Sane’s interest in shoulder took him to Brisbane, Australia, for a dedicated Australian Orthopaedic Association (AOA) Shoulder Fellowship.
At ASRI under the guidance of two shoulder surgical giants, A/Prof. Kenneth Cutbush and Prof. Ashish Gupta, his role expanded. Dr. Sane would independently perform shoulder arthroscopies, arthroplasties and complex shoulder procedures, at a public hospital in Queensland, Australia, during his fellowship training. His exposure here included high-volume surgical environments and direct work with senior consultants on complex reconstructions. This gave him a vast experience of recent and advance techniques in shoulder surgery.
Experience matters. So does variety. Dr. Sane’s work history includes time as a senior and junior resident in orthopaedics. He has taught students, published studies, and worked across public and private hospitals.
He also did a research-focused residency in pharmacology. And somewhere in between, he interned at GlaxoSmithKline, learning how the industry side operates. This is not someone who rushed through training. Every step looks intentional.
Dr. Sane’s research covers clinical orthopaedics, pharmacological outcomes, and surgical innovation. He has published over 25 papers, where in-depth studies on shoulder procedures, knee surgery, and vitamin supplementation in orthopaedic patients have been effectively covered.
He co-authored the Handbook of Arthroscopy, now in circulation for postgraduate students and young surgeons. As a research lead during his time at ASRI, he directed a project on glenoid morphology that involved collaboration with physiotherapists, engineers, and imaging specialists. The study was accepted by the Journal of Clinical Medicine.
He has presented findings at conferences like APOA, WIROC, IOACON, and IASCON, and has also spoken on student research and ethics in medical publication.
Professional Recommendations
In formal references, Dr. Sane has received strong endorsements from two leading orthopaedic experts in Australia. Dr. Kenneth Cutbush addresses him as a surgeon with sound clinical judgment. He also praises Dr. Sane’s quality of paying attention to minute details, endorses his surgical finesse, noting his ability to work calmly in high-pressure settings. He highlights Dr. Sane’s commitment to patient safety and learning.
Professor Ashish Gupta commends his poise in the theatre and his leadership in the research space. He notes Dr. Sane’s vision for orthopaedic data systems in India, calling him a forward-thinking surgeon who is ready to build infrastructure beyond the operating room. Both references speak to his consistency, humility, and the depth of his training.
Approach to Care and Clinical Philosophy
Dr. Sane believes that a surgeon must do more than operate. He approaches every case with planning, patience, and personal communication. He values a model where patients understand their options, feel reassured during recovery, and have access to long-term outcomes tracking.
In India, he hopes to bring scalable systems such as data registries, 3D surgical planning, and value-based care models to public and private practice alike. His philosophy centers on responsible innovation. Each intervention must serve the patient, the team, and the system.
The Larger Goal
Above all, Dr. Sane aims to do good work. Clean technique. Clear communication. And a little more transparency in a field that is often too fast, too clinical, too disconnected. His goal is not just to be a great surgeon. It is to improve how shoulder care is delivered in India, and to do it without cutting corners.
